About Me
I am an anesthesiologist with sub-specialty training in critical care and cardiovascular anesthesia. My passion is to deliver state of the art care to patients undergoing heart surgery throughout the entire perioperative period, from presurgical optimization, through surgery and postoperative care. I care for a wide variety of patients including patients undergoing straight forward cardiac and general surgical procedures to the extremely sick requiring complex critical care including mechanical circulatory support such as ECMO and ventricular assist devices. Being immersed in an environment of extreme illness and acuity, I understand the importance of skillful, timely and compassionate care as well as the value of collegial multidisciplinary collaboration.

As medical director of the cardiovascular ICU at our institution, my mission is to continuously refine and evolve a reliable high-quality system of care delivery with cordial multidisciplinary collaboration ensuring patients receive the best care possible. When I'm outside my work environment, I enjoy spending time with my family, the outdoors, music and a healthy dose of exercise and reading.

I'm from Colombia where I finished medical school and met my wife. We moved to Rochester, MN and trained at Mayo Clinic where we lived for 14 years, started a family and a wonderful career in cardiac anesthesia and critical care. In 2015, we decided to move to Seattle after a great opportunity presented to us to practice and expand the full scope of my expertise and experience life in the Pacific Northwest.

Areas of Clinical Interests
My clinical interest involves acute perioperative and critical cardiac care and echocardiography. My goal is to lead and optimize patient care delivery for this challenging patient population and continuously improve a reliable, efficient system designed to deliver high-quality state of the art care.
