Robert Michaels, MD, Central Florida USAP Bio

Robert Michaels, MD, MPH, is the Vice President of the Clinical Governance Board of USAPCentral Florida.  He was first elected to  the JLR Board of Directors in 2009. He served as the CRNA Liaison for 10 years.  He is currently the Chief the Compliance Committee, and a member of the Clinical Quality Committee, Recruiting Committee, Finance Committee, Compensation Committee, and Human Resources Committee.

Dr. Michaels served as the Chief of Anesthesiology for Florida Hospital, Orlando Division until moving into the Medical Staff Leadership ladder.  He served 2 years as the Secretary of the Medical Staff, 2 years as Assistant Chief of Staff, 2 years as Chief of Staff, and then 2 years as the Immediate Past Chief of Staff.  During his Chief of Staff term, he oversaw the rebranding of Florida Hospital to AdventHealth, and led efforts dealing with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to his administrative responsibilities on the AdventHealth-Orlando campus, he serves on the Peer Review Committee, Campus Leadership Committee, Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Care, and Sedation Committee.

Clinically, Dr. Michaels is an experienced member of the liver transplant and cardiac anesthesiology teams. Dr. Michaels completed his residency in anesthesiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, earned his medical degree from The George Washington University and completed his undergraduate studies at Tulane University.
